Why We Went Insurance Free

A lot has changed in the healthcare industry since Dr. Matson began his career. Individual practices continue to be consolidated into provider groups, which hospitals or private equity companies often acquire. Insurance claim generation, processing, tracking, and government regulation oversight are the main reasons why offices chose this model.

For many doctors, this arrangement sounds great. In theory, they just have to take care of patients and the billing team can take care of the administrative side of the practice.

Dr. Matson’s beliefs about patient care didn’t align with this system. “A few years back, my group was acquired by private equity and sold to a large company. Many of the valued employees that I relied on to help patients and run my practice were let go. I no longer had control over that part of the business.”

“I needed to make a change to provide the best experience for our patients.”

In December 2023, Dr. Matson left his medical group and became an independent provider again. By returning to a model without administrators and insurance companies, the Vasectomy Center of Connecticut can focus on patient care without the influence of a corporation pushing for higher margins and profit incentives.

It’s an “old school” approach, where patients hire Dr. Matson to do what he does best. He believes this model allows everyone to get more out of the experience. “When self-pay patients choose us for their procedure, the insurance regulations and systems are eliminated. I can control costs and work directly with each person to meet their needs.”

“I’m back to working for our patients and only our patients.”

“If you decide to come to the Vasectomy Center of Connecticut, you can expect more personal attention inside a practice that genuinely puts our patients’ needs first.”

To help with up-front costs for the procedure, we have partnered with CareCredit as a payment option for both vasectomies & reversals, with no interest if paid in full within 6 months. If you'd like to learn more, you can visit our CareCredit page or apply online.

And, if a patient wants to submit the bill for reimbursement from their insurance company, they can. The process is straightforward and easy.
